Code of Ethics
Hypnotherapist Hub exists to support practising hypnotherapists to work safely, confidently and professionally. This Code of Ethics sets out the standards we hold ourselves to, and the standards we expect from every member of our community.
1. Professional Standards
Members are expected to practise in line with the code of ethics and standards of their own recognised professional body or accrediting organisation. Hypnotherapist Hub supplements — and never replaces — that primary professional accountability.
We expect all members to:
- Hold appropriate, current qualifications and insurance for the hypnotherapy work they practise.
- Work within the limits of their training and competence, and refer on when a client’s needs fall outside these.
- Keep their knowledge and skills current through ongoing CPD.
2. Client Welfare and Safety
The wellbeing of clients comes first, always. Members are expected to:
- Obtain informed consent before any hypnotherapy session or technique.
- Never claim to cure, treat, or guarantee outcomes for medical or psychiatric conditions outside their competence, and to encourage clients to seek appropriate medical advice where relevant.
- Recognise the signs of conditions or crises that require referral to a GP, mental health professional, or emergency services, and act on that recognition without delay.
- Avoid creating dependency, and support each client’s autonomy and independence.
3. Confidentiality
- Client information shared in therapy is confidential, disclosed only with consent or where the law requires it, or where there is a genuine risk of serious harm.
- Case material brought to supervision or discussed within our community is anonymised. No identifying client details are shared in group settings.
- Discussions within our supervision groups and member community are treated as confidential among participants and are not to be shared outside that setting.
4. Honesty and Integrity
- Members represent their qualifications, experience, and results honestly in all advertising and client communication.
- We do not tolerate exaggerated, misleading, or unfounded claims about hypnotherapy’s effectiveness, either from members in their own practice or in content we publish.
- Testimonials and reviews used by members or on this site reflect genuine experience, not fabricated or incentivised endorsement.
5. Non-Discrimination and Respect
- We provide supervision, CPD, and community access without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic.
- Members are expected to treat clients, fellow practitioners, and Hypnotherapist Hub staff with respect, courtesy, and professionalism at all times, including in online community spaces.
- Harassment, bullying, or discriminatory conduct within our community will not be tolerated and may result in suspension or removal of membership.
6. Boundaries
- Members maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients, avoiding dual relationships or conflicts of interest that could compromise client care or judgement.
- Sexual or romantic relationships with current clients are never appropriate.
7. Supervision and Accountability
- We encourage every member to engage in regular clinical supervision as a core part of safe, reflective practice — not as a box to tick, but as genuine professional support.
- Supervisors and facilitators within Hypnotherapist Hub commit to providing honest, constructive, and non-judgemental guidance, and to raising concerns about a member’s practice directly and appropriately where client safety may be at risk.
8. Our Commitment as an Organisation
Hypnotherapist Hub itself commits to:
- Providing accurate, current, and clinically sound CPD content.
- Being transparent about how the site operates, including sponsorship and commercial relationships (see our Transparency page).
- Protecting member and client data responsibly.
- Listening to member feedback and addressing concerns about our services or content in good faith.
Raising a Concern
If you believe a member has breached this Code of Ethics, or you have a concern about content or conduct on this site, please contact us via our Contact page. Concerns will be handled confidentially and taken seriously.
